Meet your Travel Solutions tour manager at Belfast International Airport for your easyJet flight to Amsterdam. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the city for free time. Amsterdam is a fabulous city with a laid-back atmosphere and plenty of sights – 17th century gabled houses lining an enchanting network of romantic canals, pretty bridges, cobbled streets and such sights as the Rijksmuseum, Dam Square or Anne Frank’s House. Witness diamond cutting demonstrations at the Gassan Diamond Factory, not to mention the chance to purchase at wholesale. Enjoy a cold beer in Dam Square, buzzing with locals and tourists and surrounded by wonderful buildings, or visit the fragrant floating Flower Market on Singel Canal, houseboats crammed with flower stalls bursting with tulips, narcissus and other bulbs and flowers.
Today, the highlight of the visit, we are off to Keunkenhof Gardens, to marvel at the vast array of flowers – don’t forget that you can order bulbs to be sent to you at the time of planting. More than 7 million tulips, daffodils and hyachinths create a breath-taking display in the Garden of Europe.
We’ll step back in time on a cruise on the museum ship Friedland from the harbour town of Enkuisen across Lake Isjelmeer to Medemblink before boarding a wooden carriage on the nostalgic steam train through coastlines, tulips and windmills with the sound of sizzling steam and rolling wheels in our ears. We’ll disembark at the beautiful fishing village of Hoorn, a great place for browsing the unusual gift shops and vintage boutiques selling antiques and curiosities.
See the quaint and enchanting town of Zaanse Schans, an unrivalled collection of windmills in a reconstructed 18th century Dutch village. There is also a windmill museum, a clog workshop, cheese farm and more (entrances not included). We’ll then travel up to the traditional ancient fishing village of Volendam – where a maze of quaint old houses lies behind the harbour, and you can still see locals wearing the traditional Dutch dress and clogs – here you can visit Alidahoeve cheese and clog factory and buy some wonderful souvenirs to take home.
After some more free time it is time to transfer back to Amsterdam Airport for our return flight to Belfast International.
