The Best Western Plus West Retford Hotel lies within walking distance of historic Retford itself. During the tour we visit Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall two of the finest buildings in the country and very popular attractions. Explore the popular Sherwood Forest known as the secret hiding place of Nottinghamshire’s outlaw hero Robin Hood. Visit the Cathedral City of Lincoln, stepped in history, the city offers a range of shopping opportunities, a splendid castle which houses one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta and a simply stunning Cathedral.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Meet your coach at your selected pick-up point and travel to Dublin to join the early morning ferry crossing to Holyhead. On arrival in Holyhead, we travel to visit Cheshire Oaks Outlet village en-route to our hotel in Retford. Late afternoon arrive at the Best Western Plus West Retford hotel, check-in and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 2

After breakfast join your coach as we make the journey to Bakewell where we have time to look around the town. Why not visit the Original Pudding shop and have a slice of Bakewell Tart. Afterwards we travel to Chatworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Explore over 25 rooms in the house including the Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sculpture Gallery and discover its art, history, and family. Later return to your hotel to freshen up before dinner.

DAY 3

This morning after breakfast we make our way to visit the market town of Newark-on-Trent where it is market day. Enjoy some free time to explore town – why not visit the National Civil War Centre, Newark Castle, or search for a bargain at one of the antiques centres in the town. In the afternoon we travel to visit the City of Lincoln with its magnificent Cathedral, and next to it the Norman Castle. The old town is a labyrinth of little alleyways and interesting shops to explore – there are plenty of tea rooms to keep you going. Afterwards return to your hotel in Retford, relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 4

Today after breakfast join your coach as we make the short journey to Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. Known throughout the world as the secret hiding place of Nottinghamshire’s outlaw hero Robin Hood, it is also Britain’s biggest Oak tree the Major Oak! Afterwards we travel to Hardwick Hall and Gardens one of the finest Elizabethan buildings in the country. Full of architectural and artistic delights from Elizabethan embroidery to Forties furnishing, a walk through the Hall is always an enjoyable experience. Afterwards re-join your coach and return to your hotel.

DAY 5

This morning after breakfast and checking out, join your coach as we make our way back to Holyhead port with a comfort stop en-route to join the early afternoon ferry crossing to Dublin Port. On arrival, you return to your original joining point.
