Discover the truly magnificent Lake District and spectacular scenery of the Yorkshire Dales during this tour. Staying at the Cumbria Grand Hotel in the quiet seaside retreat of Grange-over-Sands, the ideal base to explore the lake district from. The hotel is set in 20 acres of gardens and woodlands and overlooking Morecambe Bay. The Lake District is the largest of England’s National Parks, featuring great natural beauty and displays some of the most scenic parts of England. On this tour visit many parts of the Lake District as we tour the lakes, enjoy a relaxing cruise on picturesque Lake Windermere, visit Ulverston, hop on the Haverthwaith railway and visit Sizergh castle. Tour the Yorkshire Dales National Park, stopping to visit Grassington and Skipton. This tour is great value for money including lunches and some drinks.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Meet your coach at your selected pick-up point and travel to Belfast to join the early morning ferry crossing to Cairnryan. On arrival in Scotland, we continue our journey towards the Lake District with a stop at the Gretna Gateway Outlet Village for some free time before arriving at your hotel in Grange-over-Sands late afternoon. On arrival at hotel check-in, relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 2

Today after breakfast (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager) join your coach as you spend the day touring the scenic Lake District. During the day visit the many towns around the lakes ie. Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick. Sit back and enjoy a relaxing lake Windermere cruise as you admire the sights of the surrounding mountain scenery. Late afternoon re-join your coach and make your way back to your hotel to relax before dinner.

DAY 3

After breakfast join your coach as we spend the day travelling through the Yorkshire Dales, sit back and admire the breath-taking scenery as we travel. Stopping to visit Grassington, a vibrant village with cobbled streets surrounded by shops, cafes, galleries, a museum, pubs and restaurants.

Stroll around the village and explore the little cobbled side-alleys where you’ll discover many interesting and beautiful historical buildings – look out for some of the date stones above doorways.

Afterwards visit the charming market town of Skipton. Skipton is full of immense history, rich in culture, independent shops, Iconic castle, famous market, stunning countryside and friendly Yorkshire people.

DAY 4

After breakfast (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager) we’ll start the day by hopping on the nearby Haverthwaite Steam Railway, this will take us on a unique journey to the southern tip of Lake Windermere. Enjoy the views as the train chugs through the countryside scenery of the Leven Valley to Lake Windermere. Afterwards re-join your coach and travel to visit the historic market town of Ulverston. Later return to your hotel in Grange-over-Sands to relax before dinner.

DAY 5

This morning after breakfast and checking out (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager), join your coach and travel to visit the National Trust’s Sizergh Castle, a beautiful medieval house with rich gardens and estate. This magnificent house stands proudly at the gateway to the Lake District and has been home to the Strickland family for more than 800 years. There’s plenty to explore on the 1,600-acre estate, including wetland, woodland and orchards – look out for fritillary butterflies, deer and rare hawfinches. If you’d rather relax in gardens, wander through the orchards, rock garden or stumpery or stroll along the herbaceous border and fruit wall – there’s something new to see in every season. After your visit re-join your coach as we make our way back to the port of Cairnryan to join the evening ferry crossing to Belfast. On arrival, you return to your original joining point.
