Itinerary

DAY 1

Meet your coach at your selected joining point and travel to Belfast for the early morning ferry crossing to Cairnryan. On arrival in Cairnryan, we continue our journey to Newcastle, stopping at the Gretna Gateway Outlet Village en-route before arriving at the hotel late afternoon. Check-in, relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 2

After breakfast join your coach as we head for the coast and South Shields, home of the late Catherine Cookson, continuing past Marsden Bay, Whitburn and Seaburn before turning inland across to the ancient and historic City of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site, and dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. Late afternoon re-join your coach and return to your hotel in Newcastle.

DAY 3

This morning after breakfast join your coach as we drive along the North Road, past Blyth and Ashington to Amble, Warkworth and historic Alnwick. Visit Alnwick castle, rich in history and brimming with drama, intrigue, and extraordinary people; from a gunpower plotter and visionary collectors, to decadent hosts and medieval England’s most celebrated knight, Harry Hotspur. Combining magnificent medieval architecture with spectacular Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations. In recent years it has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, featuring as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films and as a location for ITV’s Downton Abbey. Afterwards re-join your coach returning south to Morpeth for a short break before making our way back to the hotel in Newcastle.

DAY 4

After a leisurely breakfast spend the day in Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium ‘Winking Eye’ bridge and Newcastle’s famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon square shopping centre. Early evening make your way back to your hotel for dinner.

DAY 5

This morning after breakfast and checking out, enjoy some free time in Newcastle before we say goodbye and make our way back to Cairnryan with a comfort stop enroute to join the early evening ferry crossing to Belfast. On arrival, you return to your original joining point.
