The elegant, Victorian, 4-star Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is in the heart of Exeter, opposite Exeter Central Rail Station, 5 miles from the M5 motorway. The classic bedrooms each have a private modern bathroom and tea/coffee facilities. All rooms have a work desk and Wi-Fi access, and a TV with satellite channels. Drakes Restaurant is on the ground floor of Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel and offers traditional British food. Drakes Bar provides an informal dining experience, whilst Nelson’s Lounge offers light snacks throughout the day, together with delicious afternoon teas. With its friendly service and fine surroundings, Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is a good base for your stay in Exeter. City centre shops are within easy walking distance.

Itinerary
Day 1: Belfast to Bristol – Arrival and City Exploration Upon arrival at Belfast International Airport, please proceed to the easyJet bag drop area (boarding passes are attached). After checking in, proceed through security to your departure gate, where you will meet your Tour Manager (Be sure to make contact with your Tour Manager before boarding your flight).
Once onboard, relax and enjoy your flight to Bristol. On arrival at Bristol Airport, your Tour Manager will greet you in the arrivals area and accompany you to your awaiting coach for the journey to your hotel in Exeter.
After check-in, enjoy some free time in Exeter. You may wish to explore the vibrant city of Exeter, indulge in some shopping, or visit its impressive landmarks, including the stunning Exeter Cathedral and other historic sites in this charming university city.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll take part in a guided walking tour of the city (approx. 60-90 minutes walking tour), offering insights into Exeter’s rich history and heritage. (Your Tour Manager will provide details regarding the time and meeting point.) Then enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 2: Totnes, Paignton Steam Train & Dartmouth After breakfast at the hotel (departure time to be confirmed by your Tour Manager), board your coach and enjoy a scenic drive through the picturesque Devon countryside to the lively market town of Totnes. Spend the morning at leisure exploring this vibrant town, known for its independent shops, rich history, and creative spirit.
Following lunch (own arrangements), continue to the charming seaside town of Paignton, where you’ll board a vintage steam train for a memorable journey along the stunning River Dart. Travel through beautiful countryside to Kingswear, then take a short ferry ride across the river to reach the delightful harbour town of Dartmouth both the train and ferry are included in your fare.
Enjoy free time to explore Dartmouth, a vibrant coastal gem filled with quaint streets, galleries, caf s, and maritime history.
Later, rejoin your coach for the return journey to Exeter, where you’ll have the evening free to relax or continue exploring the city at your own pace.
Day 3: Plymouth, Harbour Cruise & Tavistock via Dartmoor After breakfast (departure time will be confirmed by your Tour Manager), travel by coach to Plymouth, proudly known as England’s Ocean City. Begin your visit in the historic Barbican area, where you’ll see the famous Mayflower Steps marking the departure point of the Pilgrims in 1620 and have the opportunity to explore the Pilgrim Museums.
Next, enjoy a popular 1-hour Plymouth Harbour Cruise, taking you along the scenic Tamar River and through HMS Devonport, the largest naval base in Western Europe. This relaxing cruise offers wonderful views and insights into the city’s maritime heritage.
Afterward, enjoy free time for lunch and a bit of independent exploration before departing Plymouth.
Your journey continues with a scenic drive through the dramatic landscapes of Dartmoor National Park, arriving in the charming county town of Tavistock birthplace of explorers Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. This historic market town is full of character, with its pannier market, independent shops, and welcoming caf s.
Later in the afternoon, rejoin your coach and return to your hotel in Exeter, where the evening is yours to relax or explore at your leisure.
Day 4: Port Isaac, Padstow & the Beauty of Cornwall This morning (departure time to be confirmed by your Tour Manager), depart by coach for the picturesque Cornish village of Port Isaac, famously known as the filming location for the beloved TV series Doc Martin. Enjoy some free time to explore the charming streets and scenic coastline, and see the familiar spots featured throughout the show. You’ll also pass through areas used in the filming of Poldark, offering a glimpse into the stunning landscapes that brought the drama to life.
Continue your journey to the vibrant fishing port of Padstow, a popular destination on the Cornish coast. Enjoy time at leisure to stroll the scenic harbour, browse independent shops, or sample local delicacies. Food lovers may wish to visit one of Rick Stein’s renowned restaurants or explore coastal walking trails offering spectacular cliffside views.
If time and tides permit, you may also choose to take a short ferry ride (payable locally) across the Camel Estuary to the quaint village of Rock, a favourite with holidaymakers.
Later in the afternoon, rejoin your coach and return to your hotel in Exeter, with the evening free to relax and reflect on your day in Cornwall.
