Itinerary

Day 1 Meet your coach at your chosen pick-up point. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey as we travel south toward Dublin Port. Once on board the ferry, you’ll be shown to your cabin and can take full advantage of the onboard facilities.

Day 2 Upon arrival in Cherbourg at 12:30 pm, and after completing border formalities, rejoin your coach to continue your journey to Caen and your hotel, where you’ll stay for the next four nights. After checking in, enjoy the rest of the day free to relax at the hotel or take a tram ride (payable locally) into the centre of Caen to explore its many sights, restaurants, and bars at your leisure.

Day 3 After breakfast, begin the day with a visit to Pegasus Bridge, Café Gondrée, and the Pegasus Memorial Museum, dedicated to the brave men of the British 6th Airborne Division. This area marks one of the first liberated sites of D-Day and offers an inspiring insight into the courage and precision of the Allied airborne operations.

Continue to Sword Beach, near Ouistreham, one of the five D-Day landing beaches where Allied forces came ashore on June 6, 1944, during Operation Overlord. A visit here provides a powerful and moving perspective on the events that shaped the course of World War II.

Next, travel to the coastal town of Arromanches, where you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch before visiting the scenic viewpoint overlooking the remains of the Mulberry Harbour—the remarkable temporary port built by the Allies after the landings. Nearby, you’ll also see the D-Day 75 Garden, designed by John Everiss and first featured at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019. The garden pays tribute to 97-year-old veteran Bill Pendell, M.M., and commemorates the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

In the afternoon, continue to the British Normandy Memorial and the Bayeux War Cemetery, where rows of white headstones stand as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom.

Return to your hotel in Caen in the evening, you’ll have leisure time to relax or further explore the city at your own pace.

Day 4 After breakfast, we head into the heart of Caen, where you’ll have free time to explore this fascinating city at your own pace. Once heavily bombed during the summer of 1944, Caen has been beautifully restored and today blends wartime memory with vibrant city life. Discover impressive landmarks such as the Caen Castle, a grand 11th-century fortress founded by William the Conqueror, and the elegant Abbaye-aux-Hommes and Abbaye-aux-Dames, two remarkable abbeys that showcase the city’s rich medieval heritage.

After lunch (timings and meeting points will be provided by your tour manager), visit the world-renowned Caen Memorial Museum, dedicated to the history of the 20th century — from the rise of totalitarian regimes to World War II, the D-Day Landings, the Battle of Normandy, and more recent global conflicts. Designed around the site of an underground bunker once used by German General Wilhelm Richter, the museum stands today as a powerful symbol of peace and reconciliation.

In the evening, enjoy time at leisure to relax at your hotel or further explore Caen’s charming streets, cafés, and shops.

Day 5 After breakfast, board your coach for a full-day tour.  Depart the hotel and visit the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach, followed by a stop at Pointe du Hoc. Continue to Sainte-Mère-Église and visit Utah Beach and its museum before returning to your hotel in Caen to enjoy the rest of your evening at leisure.

Day 6 After breakfast, check out of your hotel and board your coach as we make our way to Cherbourg Port, stopping en-route to visit Gold Beach, one of the five Allied landing zones on D-Day, June 6, 1944, which played a decisive role in the liberation of Normandy and Western Europe. Visiting this site offers not only a deep historical experience but also the chance to stand in a place where courage, sacrifice, and innovation changed the course of history.  Afterwards, rejoin your coach as we continue the journey, stopping in Bayeux, where you will have free time to grab some lunch – one of France’s most charming and historically significant towns. It’s a rare place where the past and present coexist beautifully — from medieval masterpieces to poignant memories of World War II. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply in search of authentic French charm, Bayeux is a must-see destination.  Then rejoin your coach as we continue the journey to Cherbourg Port to join the afternoon ferry crossing back to Dublin.

Day 7 Arrive in Dublin at 11:15 a.m. After disembarking, begin your journey north, returning to your original departure point by mid-evening—bringing home a wealth of wonderful memories.
