Itinerary
11th April – Dublin Airport On arrival at Dublin Airport terminal 1, please make your way to the check-in area for your flight. Once you have checked-in and received your boarding passes proceed through security to your departure gate. On arrival in Amman, meet and assist by your representative and transfer to your hotel for late check-in and overnight.
12th April – Amman Amman / A modern capital with a population of around 4 million people. It’s been inhabited since the Neolithic period and was also known as Rabath Ammon in the Iron age and Philadelphia during the Greek and Roman times. The Citadel- located on one of Amman’s hills – is home to the Roman Hercules Temple and Islamic Ummayad Palace. The Citadel overlooks the Roman Amphitheatre in downtown Amman, which is cut into the side of a hill and seats more than 6000 spectators.

13th April – Amman Hotel – Jerash Visit – Ajloun Visit – Amman Overnight Jerash / The Greco Roman city of Jerash known as Gerasa in ancient times is 45km north of Amman. Entry to the site is through the imposing Hadrian Arch erected to honour the visit of Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. A tour of the city will include visits to the Hippodrome, the Oval Forum with its 56 Ionic columns, the Temple of Zeus, the 5000 seat South Theatre, the Colonnaded Street and the Temple of Artemis.

Ajloun / One of Jordan’s most scenic areas north of Amman. An evergreen landscape of hills and forests filled with local oak, pine and carob trees. On one of Ajloun highest hills lies the Rabbad Castle – an Islamic military fortress built by Saladin’s army to defend against the invading Crusaders. A great examples of Medieval Islamic architecture, with large gates, vaulted ceilings, towers, and wall slits acting as fortified windows for archers. Visit Highlights: Al Rabad castle, Museum. 14th April: Amman Hotel – Madaba Visit – Mount Nebo Visit – Umm Rassas Visit – Amman Overnight Madaba / The town of Madaba lies south of Amman along the ancient Kings Highway. The city is known for its spectacular collection of Byzantine Mosaics. The Greek Orthodox Church of St George in the centre of the town houses the famous Byzantine era mosaic map of the Holy Land depicting valleys, hills and villages from Jerusalem to the Nile. Other churches and location around the town host other colourful mosaics. Visit Highlights: Church of St. George- 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Greek Orthodox, Apostles church. Mount Nebo / Reputed to be Moses burial place after he saw the “Promised Land”. From the Franciscan Church built on the remains of the Byzantine Monastery, there is a commanding view of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and the hills of the Holy Land. The interior of the church contains remnants of mosaic floors from different periods.

Umm Rassas / The UNESCO World Heritage site is a few kilometres off the ancient Kings Highway. The archaeological site is home to 16 churches built between the 3rd and 9th centuries AD as well as a fortified Roman Military camp. A number of the churches have well preserved mosaic floors depicting trees, birds, animals and even towns and cities that were important at the time.

15th April: Amman Hotel – Mukawir Visit – Kerak Visit – Shobak Visit – Petra Overnight Mukawir / The hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Upon Herod’s death, his son, Herod Antipas, inherited the fortress and it is from here that he ordered John the Baptist to be beheaded after Salome’s fateful dance. Known locally as Qala’at alMeshneq (Castle of the Gallows), one of a series of hilltop strongholds established by Herod the Great (the father of Antipas) along the edge of the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea. Kerak / At 900 meters above sea level, the Crusader Castle of Kerak – one of the largest in the Levant – is dominating. Due to its location east of the Dead Sea, Cracdes Moabites (Kerak of Moab) as the Crusaders called it controlled the trade route between Damascus, Egypt and Mecca . The castle and the city were later taken over by the Muslim armies of Saladin. Today Kerak is a thriving city with a population of around 170,000 inhabitants. Visit Highlights: Kerak castle. Shobak / The crusader fortress built by Baldwin I – King of Jerusalem – known as “Montreal” commands an imposing position on the caravan routes between Damascus and Egypt. It fell to the Islamic armies of Saladin after an 18 month siege. The Mamluks built over the crusader buildings later on in the 14th century. Today you can see the remains of the watchtower, wells, catacombs, prison and market place. Visit Highlights: Shobak castle. Visit Duration: 1 Hour Average Difficulty Level: Medium

16th April: Petra Hotel – Petra Visit – Wadi Rum Visit – Wadi Rum Overnight Petra / The capital city of the Nabatean Arabs is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world and Jordan’s national treasure. Petra -which means Rose Red city, gets its name from the colour of the rocky mountains the city is carved into. The city prospered in the 1st century AD through the trade of frankincense, myrrh, and spices. The Romans annexed the thriving city, but
abandoned it in mid of the 4th century after a strong earthquake hit the city. The city was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer Johannes Burckhardt in 1812. Today Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is visited by thousands of people every day.

Little Petra / Al Beidha is an ancient archaeological site located a few kilometres north of the World UNESCO site of Petra. Al Beidha is also known as Little Petra due to its similarities in architecture with the main site. It is thought to have been an important suburb of Petra and is entered through a narrow opening, similar to Siq but of a much smaller scale.

Overnight in Wadi Rum camp
17th April: Wadi Rum Camp – Wadi Rum Visit – Aqaba Overnight Wadi Rum / A colorful desert with sandstone mountains and sheer cliffs that resemble a landscape from Mars. It’s a unique landscape that has been the backdrop of several Hollywood films over the years. Tourists flock to this desert to enjoy watching sunsets, desert safaris, trekking, camping and other adventurous activities.

18th April: Aqaba Hotel – Aqaba free Time – Aqaba Overnight Free time in Aqaba.
Aqaba / Jordan’s jewel on the Red Sea and its only port. The once quiet fishing town is a thriving city with many beach resorts, hotels and scuba diving clubs. A lot to do in the city including water sports, world class golf, shopping in the local souks and markets, or just soaking in the sun on the sandy beaches.

19th April: Aqaba Hotel – Baptism Site Visit – Dead Sea Free Time – dead Sea Overnight Baptism Site / (Al-Maghtas) is a unique Christian pilgrimage site associated with the baptism of Jesus Christ. It is known as the location where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and is considered the place of the spiritual birth of Jesus Christ.
Visit Highlights: Baptism basins, Elijah’s hill, Baptism site of Jesus Christ, Jordan River.

Dead Sea / A salt lake whose banks are more than 400m below sea level, the lowest point on dry land. It’s famously hypersaline water makes floating easy, and its mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments at area resorts. The surrounding desert offers many oases and historic sites.
