We spend some time here before we go on a scenic drive through the lakes passing Coniston Water to reach Ambleside, a picturesque town located on the Northern point of Lake Windermere. We spend some time browsing its wide variety of independent stores, Museums, and cafes. Before taking a lake cruise from Ambleside to Lakeside. Spend some time in Lakeside before we return to the hotel for the evening.
Day 3 Today after breakfast (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager) join your coach as we head east to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We make our first stop in the idyllic village of Ingleton. After spending some time here, we continue through the national park, taking in the picturesque scenery on our way, to the market town of Hawes. This town is the home of the creamery of the famous Wensleydale cheese- in all its many varieties! We have free time here and a chance to enjoy your lunch. Later we travel west through the moors making a stop in Sedbergh before we return to Grange-over-sands and our hotel.
Day 4 Today takes us into the north of the Lake District, travelling via Thirlmere to the shores of Derwentwater until we reach Keswick, the capital of the North Lakes area. There is plenty to see and do. Perhaps visit the Keswick Museum (payable locally), or the Keswick Brewing company (payable locally) during our stop. You’ll also have time to enjoy lunch. We return to the hotel via a stop in Grasmere. This small but very well-known village is famous for its gingerbread. Afterwards continue the journey back to your hotel in Grange-over-sands.
Day 5 This morning after breakfast and checking out (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager), join your coach as we make our journey back to the port of Cairnryan stopping en-route to visit Lowther Castle and Gardens. One of the many treasures waiting to be discovered in the English Lake District, Lowther Castle is a particular gem. Built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses, the castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year. Its gardens were the envy of the north. But in 1957 the castle was demolished. Just the façade and outer walls remained standing and for over half a century, the place was empty – home only to chickens, pigs, and the odd bat. The gardens were lost to wilderness. Today Lowther Castle is one of the most intriguing visitor attractions in the country. Dramatic ruins, gardens within gardens, an adventure playground to rival the best in the land. Afterwards re-join your coach as we continue the journey to the port of Cairnryan to join the evening ferry crossing to Belfast. On arrival, you return to your original joining point.
