Join us on a tour of Scotland’s Romantic Highland Railways. A true showcase of Scotland’s best rail journeys. Staying at the Highlander hotel set in the picturesque village of Newtonmore. The hotel is a traditional highland hotel renowned for its good food and true Highland hospitality and its location makes it an ideal base for exploring the Highlands. Sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in amazing Highland scenery as we take you on three famous railway journeys. The West Highland line featuring the Glenfinnan Viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter movies. A short but sweet steam train journey from Aviemore on a lovingly restored locomotive one of the Cairngorms little gems. Finally take the trilling journey on the Kyle line between Skye and Dingwell to appreciate the dramatic scenery.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Meet your coach at your selected pick-up point and travel to Belfast to join the early morning ferry crossing to Cairnryan. On arrival in Cairnryan, we’ll travel to Glasgow for some free time to explore the city before continuing the journey to our hotel in Newtonmore arriving late afternoon. Check-in, relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 2

Today after breakfast join your coach and travel to Aviemore to take the Strathspey Railway to Broomhill. Based in the heart of the Highland’s the premier heritage railway welcomes you aboard vintage carriages hauled by lovingly restored locomotive whilst admiring the rugged scenery. Afterwards join your coach to travel to Culloden Battlefield. Enjoy some time to visit the visitors centre, café and shop. Afterwards re-join your coach to return to your hotel in Newtonmore. Relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 3

This morning after breakfast, join your coach as we travel to board the Scotrail train from Dingwall to Kyle (this is approx. 2hr 30 mins train journey). It’s all aboard ‘one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Europe’ according to Michael Palin. On arrival in Kyle re-join your coach and travel to visit Eilean Donan Castle. Explore a 13th Century Castle in the Highlands of Scotland and you will embark on a journey that takes you through time and history. Afterwards return to your hotel by coach through the wonderful Highland Grandeur.

DAY 4

After breakfast join your coach as we travel to Fort William to board the Scotrail train – described as the greatest railway journey in the world, partly due to the 46 miles of spellbinding scenery and for the major part it took part in the Harry Potter productions. Glide past beautiful views of lochs, mountains, famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, and the Isles of Eigg, Much and Rum. In Mallaig enjoy some free time to explore this Highland fishing town. The road journey back in your coach is very different to the rail journey where we’ll make some stops en-route firstly with a stop at Glenfinnan to see Bonnie Prince Charlie’s monument at the head of Loch Shiel and the massive viaduct. Finally, Neptunes Staircases in Banavie, a series of eight lock gates on the Caledonian Canal.

DAY 5

This morning after breakfast and checking out, we make our way to Stirling, enjoy some free time to explore the city, its dramatic castle, and many other attractions. Mid-afternoon meet your coach and travel to the port of Cairnryan to join the evening ferry crossing to Belfast. On arrival, you will return to your original joining point.
