Situated in a secluded, wooded valley, high in the Shap Fells and surrounded by mountain streams, Shap Wells Hotel is the ideal place from which to explore the Lakes, Dales and the English and Scottish Border Counties. The hotel has retained many of its original features over the years and much time has been taken to retain the true character of the building.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Meet your coach at your selected pick-up point and travel to Belfast to join the early morning ferry crossing to Cairnryan. On arrival in Scotland, we continue our journey towards Penrith with a stop at the Caledonia Park Designer Outlet Village, Gretna Green for some free time before arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon. Check-in, relax and freshen up before dinner. Afterwards enjoy some entertainment in the hotel.

DAY 2

Today after breakfast (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager) join your coach for a full day tour of the lakes, admire the stunning scenery as we travel. Firstly, we’ll visit the pretty market town of Keswick with free time to explore. Why not discover the fascinating history of an everyday item at the Derwent Pencil Museum (entry fee applies) or visit the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery (entry fee applies) where local artefacts are displayed. Afterwards we will visit Grasmere and Bowness on Water before returning to our hotel. This evening there will be a festive Christmas dinner and live entertainment in the hotel.

DAY 3

After breakfast (departure times will be confirmed by your tour manager) join your coach as we travel to visit Lowther castle – one of the many treasures waiting to be discovered in the English Lake District, Lowther Castle is a particular gem. Built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses, the castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year. Its gardens were the envy of the north. But in 1957 the castle was demolished. Just the façade and outer walls remained standing and for over half a century, the place was empty – home only to chickens, pigs, and the odd bat. The gardens were lost to wilderness. Today Lowther Castle is one of the most intriguing visitor attractions in the country. Dramatic ruins, castle and gardens within gardens. Later meet your coach as we continue touring the lakes with a stop in Windermere and Ambleside before returning to the hotel to relax and freshen up before dinner.

DAY 4

This morning after breakfast and checking out, join your coach and travel to visit Teebay Farm Shop that appeared on the tv series ‘A lake district Farmshop’. Afterwards re-join your coach as we make our return journey to the Port of Cairnryan to join the afternoon ferry crossing to Belfast. On arrival, you return to your original joining point.
