Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Derby Meet your coach at your selected joining point and travel to Dublin for the morning ferry crossing to Holyhead. On arrival, continue by coach towards Derby, with a comfort stop en route. Arrive at the Leonardo Hotel Derby in the late afternoon, where you can check in, settle into your room and relax before dinner.
Day 2: The Northern Peaks Following breakfast, depart by coach (departure time will be confirmed by your Tour Manager) for a scenic journey through the spectacular northern Peak District. Travel along the famous Snake Pass, crossing the moorlands to the dramatic viewpoint at Bleaklow, overlooking Ladybower Reservoir, where the RAF’s Dambusters famously practised their low-level flying during the Second World War.
Continue to Derwent Reservoir, beneath whose waters lie the remains of the former village of Derwent. Enjoy free time in the historic village of Eyam, renowned as the “Plague Village” for its extraordinary sacrifice during the 1665 plague outbreak. There will also be an opportunity to view the impressive ruins of Peveril Castle, dating back to the 12th century.
Your final stop is the picturesque village of Castleton, nestled in the Hope Valley and famous for its unique Blue John stone and spectacular caverns. Afterwards, rejoin your coach for the return journey to the hotel, where dinner awaits.
Day 3: Matlock Bath & Heritage Steam Railway After breakfast (departure time will be confirmed by your Tour Manager), travel to the southern Peak District for a delightful day of heritage and scenery. Enjoy a nostalgic 25-minute journey aboard a heritage steam train between Rowsley and Matlock, passing through beautiful countryside and charming villages.
You will then have free time in the popular riverside resort of Matlock Bath, set within a dramatic limestone gorge along the River Derwent. Why not take the cable car to the Heights of Abraham (admission payable locally), where stunning panoramic views, woodland walks, cavern tours and visitor attractions await? Alternatively, spend time exploring the town’s shops, cafés and riverside promenade. Later, rejoin your coach for the return journey to the hotel and dinner.
Day 4: Tour the Peak District, Chatsworth House, Bakewell & Buxton After breakfast (departure time will be confirmed by your Tour Manager), set off for another memorable day in the Peak District.
Your first stop is the charming market town of Bakewell, famous for its delicious Bakewell Pudding. Enjoy time to browse the original Bakewell Pudding Shop, where this iconic local delicacy continues to be made using the traditional recipe.
Continue to magnificent Chatsworth House, often referred to as the “Palace of the Peaks.” Explore the grand state rooms, admire priceless works of art and elegant furnishings, and wander through 105 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens featuring fountains, sculptures, waterfalls and hidden pathways.
On your return to Derby, stop in the elegant spa town of Buxton. Renowned for its Georgian and Victorian architecture, natural spring water and attractive gardens, Buxton offers the perfect opportunity for a stroll before returning to your hotel to relax and freshen up before dinner.
Day 5: Journey Home After breakfast, check out of your hotel and bid farewell to Derby. (Your departure time will be confirmed by your Tour Manager.) Travel by coach back to Holyhead, with a comfort stop en route, before boarding the afternoon ferry to Dublin. On arrival, your coach will transfer you to your original joining point, bringing your enjoyable Peak District holiday to a close.
